Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) |
The KOSPI was introduced in 1983, providing
a comprehensive measure of general market
trends on the KRX. |
The KOSPI is a price-weighted index based
on the aggregate market value of all common
stocks listed (excluding mutual funds and
preferred stocks) on KRX, using the base date
of 4 January 1980 and the base index 100.00.
|
The index is adjusted, however, to eliminate
the influence of any corporate actions, reflecting
only movements resulting from market activities.
Therefore, the base aggregate market value
is adjusted whenever the current market value
undergoes variations such as capital changes,
new listings or delistings. |

Dividend Stock Price (KODI) |
A new market capitalization weighted index,
KODI, was introduced in July 2003 using 50
listed blue chips with strong earning
power as indicated by their high ROE, liquidity
and market capitalization. |
The main purpose of the index is to provide
investors with a new appraisal indicator.
|
Its base date is July 1, 2001 with base index
of 1,000. |
Adjusted
Stock Price Average |
In 1992, the KRX introduced a new reference to
the KOSPI, the Adjusted Stock Price Average.
|
The new index is calculated by averaging all
share prices listed on the KRX after making technical
price adjustments without giving weight to
the capitalization of each issue. |
Price
Earnings Ratio |
The KRX in April 1969 began to publish the price
earnings ratio on a monthly basis. |
Since 1974, however, the average PER of all
listed stocks and the individual PER of each
listed stock were provided on a daily basis.
|
From 2000, new PER additions for KOSPI 200
and KOSPI 50 were made available. |
Dividend
Yield |
The dividend yield, the dividend-to-stock-price
ratio, is used as an indicator of the potential
profit of the purchase of a given stock at
the current price, assuming that a company
pays the same amount of dividend as in the
previous year. |
The KRX publishes daily and monthly averages for
dividend yields for all companies paying dividends.
The information is available on the KRX website
(www.krx.co.kr). |
