As an industry think-tank focusing on the development of the Korean capital market and financial investment industry, KOFIA studies the various systems and factors industry and investors feel need improvement and proposes solutions to the government, supervisory agencies and law makers.

In order to perform such tasks, KOFIA networks with the financial investment industry, academia and research institutes over the current issues, and operates various councils and taskforces with CEOs, executive officers and working-level personnel from member firms. As a result, the association is able to further its efforts to reflect the broad interests of the financial investment industry.

In addition, KOFIA tracks statistics related to the capital market, such as the trends of short and long-term funds, and the fund and derivatives market. It also conducts in-depth analyses of the performances of various financial investment firms. These services are provided to assist market participants make well-informed investment decisions and the government in its policy-making.

 Globalization

In the increasingly interconnected financial world, the presence of Korean financial investment firms in the global capital market has become a necessity. To cope with the new environment created by the Financial Investment Services and Capital Market Act, financial investment firms are preparing to engage in overseas operations, particularly in the emerging markets.

KOFIA has prepared a number of programs to assist the globalization of the Korean financial investment industry. KOFIA operates the Korea Emerging Market Center to assist its members with entering emerging markets around the world.

KOFIA actively promotes the globalization of the Korean financial investment industry and sponsors a number of international activities to that end. Every year, KOFIA hosts the Korean Capital Market Seminar to train market professionals from emerging economies on Korea's capital market. KOFIA also hosts benchmarking trips to advanced countries for industry professionals. Recently, the association began holding roadshows to introduce the Korean capital market to foreign investors as a means of promoting the Korean capital market to overseas investors.

KOFIA is extensively involved in the international arena. It is an active member of the International Council of Securities Associations, the International Investment Funds Association, the Asia Securities Forum, the International Forum for Investor Education, the International Organization of Securities Commissions and other major international organizations.

During the negotiations of FTAs and at the WTO, KOFIA actively advocates for the Korean financial investment industry. KOFIA has also concluded MOUs with five countries, including China, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
