KOFIA has played a key role in altering the investment paradigm of individual investors from short-term speculative trading to long-term fundamental direct and indirect investment through public relations campaigns and education programs. It sponsored the "10 shares savings plan" campaign in which investors could buy small amounts of stocks regularly, similar to a savings account at a bank. The benefits of long-term, indirect investment was also extensively advertised on the television and in newspapers to much success.
As a founding member of the International Forum of Investor Education, KOFIA pioneered investor education in Korea. KOFIA played a leading role in founding the Korea Council for Investor Education (KCIE) and is currently acting as the secretariat. The chairman of KOFIA also serves as the chairman of the KCIE. Other members of the KCIE include the KRX, FSC, FSS, and others.
The KCIE aims to make Korea the global model for individual investor education by offering the best on-line education programs, tailored to fit the particular needs of individual investors, college students, high school students, female investors, teachers and the general public. The KCIE offers classes both on-line and off-line. The KCIE will strive to reach the financially illiterate to make Korea the most financially literate nation in the world.
As a result, a sound long-term and indirect investment culture has been instilled into Korea. Based on this achievement, the KCIE and KOFIA are planning to export Korea's investment culture to emerging markets.
Social Responsibilities
KOFIA believes its clients range far beyond its members. Aside from its members, the association regards both individual and institutional investors, government agencies and foreign investors as its clients.
For its continuous effort to serve and satisfy its clients, KSDA, KOFIA's predecessor, received the Grand Prize for Customer Satisfaction in 2005 and First Prize for Customer Satisfaction in 2006 from the Korea Management Association Consulting.
While pursuing its goal to be the best customer-oriented organization, KOFIA always remembers its duty to be socially responsible. KOFIA operates a Corporate Social Responsibility program to actively engage in social services. KOFIA sponsors many charity programs, including holding charity symphony orchestra concerts, supporting philanthropic organizations and many other social service activities. |
